Abby sees a strange blue-green light. Aliens? Electrical storm? Fog warning? She drags bestie Clara out to investigate after bizarre things start happening. Some would call Largo Bay quirky. Others would call it downright strange. To Abby McQuade it's just home. Abby has a big imagination. And her curiosity always leads to trouble. Every adventurer has a sidekick. Holmes had Watson. Batman had Robin. Abby has her bestie, Clara Erickson. Clara is regimented, hyper-scheduled, and disciplined. Abby is ... not. Abby is yin to Clara's yang. Would her bestie be bored without Abby's curious mind? Totally.

Gr 4-7-Quirky and curious Abby, along with her straitlaced best friend Clara, must investigate a string of mysterious supernatural events in their town of Largo Bay. In The Ghosts of Largo Bay, a number of strange power outages, along with mysterious blue-green figures she sees in the night, leads Abby to realize the ghosts of the town's founders have come back to chase away current residents. Students all over the globe begin getting a skin rash in Virus, leading Abby and her friends to investigate a bug-centric plot to take over the world involving underground tunnels below their school. Each cover has bright, glowing colors that advertise the paranormal nature of the series. While the plots wrap up neatly at the end of each volume, the endearing cast of eccentric characters remains consistent. Abby is a fierce and relatable heroine. VERDICT Fans of mysteries and the paranormal will enjoy reading this new series about the unusual incidents and residents of Largo Bay, written at a first grade reading level.
