In Mary Mac’s Tea Room, author and owner John Ferrell brings together classic recipes from this venerable institution of Southern comfort food.

When Mary Mac’s opened in 1945, it was one of sixteen tea rooms around Atlanta, Georgia. Today, it stands alone in carrying on the tradition of bringing great Southern cooking to everyone from blue collar workers to celebrities.

Now you can bring home many of the restaurant’s famed recipes, from Cranberry Pecan Salad to Peach Buttermilk Pancakes to Fried Okra and Country Ham with Redeye Gravy and many more—in this cookbook richly illustrated with photography, old menus, postcards, and artwork from its magnificent history.

Ferrell purchased Mary Mac's Tea Room in 1994. He here shares a brief history of the restaurant, which in the 1940s was one of 16 tea rooms in Atlanta, and includes historical photographs and biographies of past and present owners and staff members. With plenty of traditional Southern recipes accessible to novices--from Daddy's Oyster Stew and Chicken and Southern Dumplings to Crawfish Gumbo and Country Cheese Grits--this part history, part cookbook is recommended for Southern libraries and is bound to inspire travelers.
